This issue is an issue that bothers me and when i get enough power i want to try and take this up as a cause to try and change this system. This viscious cycle that is associated with the tesing world ties up funds and doesn't allow schools to improve themselves. This is an issue that i could talk about for hours but i think this has been a theme throughout my blog and i will touch on this in depth in my ethnographic report.
For now, what i will say is that how is one supposed to teach in the curriculum and also be able to teach a test that does not have a clear cut objective except to test knowledge? What knowledge are they looking for and where will they use this knowledge again?

Luke, I agree with your thoughts that teaching to the test is ridiculous. I think that students will not be prepared for life if they only teach to the test. I also agree that it is a subject that I could talk about for hours. Hopefully someone will realize its not always about test scores before its too late.
TESTING, TESTING TESTING...
That is ALL we hear about.. It is almost impossible to avoid the testing. I just wish that the state would care more about kids than what the standards are "supposed" to be.
Luke, I can see that you and I have the same views on standardized tests. If the material taught is just based on a test, and passed down year to year, it will only become outdated. Teaching to a test is not effective. The school systems want to ensure kids are learning and they do this by giving tests. The only problem is, how much are the kids really learning, understanding, and keeping with them to use in the future?
i agree that this is somethign strongly to disagree with. i feel that the tests are too important and it does make you wonder where some of these things that are used on the test are going to be used again. When will a student need to take a picture and create a story from it. When will i in my math oriented education need to use that. I'm thinking no where for now.
i also agree that standardized tests are not as good as many people say they are. it is nearly impossible to be able to teach everything in a normal curriculum, plus everything that has to be taught on a test. and what will happen if they never change the information on these tests over a few years. then we are no going to be advances, we are just going to stay exactly where we are.
